The Milky Way Galaxy is a 13 billion year old spiral galaxy spanning over 100,000 light years across and 15,000 light years deep. The Milky Way Galaxy consists of over 200 billion stars orbiting a centralized core structure. Throughout its existence the galaxy has been home to a myriad collection of governments and life-forms, starting with the ancient Preservers nearly 4 Billion Years ago, and has seen the rise and fall of multiple new empires in the recent decades.

The galaxy has been naturally divided into multiple arms; however, for astronavigational purposes, it has been further divided into four quadrants of equal size and is further subdivided into sectors.

Alpha Quadrant

The Alpha Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy and dominates the southwestern region of the galaxy. At present roughly 25% of the region has been explored with known space being dominated by the Cardassian Union, the Ferengi Alliance, and the United Federation of Planets. A collection of smaller governments, such as the Breen Confederacy and the Tzenkethi Coalition are also vying for power in this territory. The Alpha Quadrant is home to two of the most interesting scientific phenomenon in the Milky Way Galaxy: the Bajoran Wormhole, which provides access to the Gamma Quadrant, and the Badlands, an expansive charged plasma field, are located in this region of space.

Beta Quadrant

The Beta Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy and comprises the southeastern region of the galaxy. The region is primarily dominated by the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Republic, and the Romulan Star Empire. The United Federation of Planets occupies multiple systems within the Beta Quadrant and has faced off against the powers of this region multiple times since its foundation with the 23rd Century being especially tumultuous. Among the most interesting phenomenon in this region is the Briar Patch, a nebula cloud that generates intense metaphasic radiation that can cause biological tissues to regenerate, and the Typhon Expanse - a region known for its intense temporal anomalies.

Gamma Quadrant

The Gamma Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy and dominates the northwestern region of the galaxy. The region of space is controlled by a government known as the Dominion and its allies, whom have placed limitations on access to the region and are fiercely territorial of their borders. The region is only accessible at this time via the Bajoran Wormhole. The Dominion has recently agreed to allow the United Federation of Planets to explore the area south of the Bajoran Wormhole and has agreed to increased diplomatic relations with the United Federation of Planets.

Delta Quadrant

The Delta Quadrant is one of the four quadrants of the Milky Way Galaxy and dominates the northeastern region of the galaxy. For most of recorded history this region has been the home of the Borg Collective; however, with the recent damage to the Collective, a large power vacuum now exists in the Quadrant that the Supremacy is trying to fill. During its short sojourn through the Quadrant, the Starship Voyager created a lasting legacy throughout the region which has led the United Federation of Planets has launch limited operations in the Quadrant. Due to their extensive experience with the Federation, the Talaxians have recently petitioned the Federation for membership and have been accepted.
